I’m Fabulous

One of the trickier things – at least, for me – is writing about women’s fashions.

Go on, laugh.  I’ll wait.

Without wanting to give too much away, how do you write a scene where you manage to keep it real between two chicks discussing clothes, or hair?

The short answer: research.  Today’s browser search history would be fascinating to post here, if I hadn’t purged it violently moments ago.

I think I’ve got it down, but it’s one of those things that has no good answer.  If I get it wrong, the scene lacks authenticity.  If I get it right, I’ll be asked to consult on America’s Next Top Model.

Actually, this might have an upside.

Juggling all of this – pacing, setting, character development – is hard.  I hadn’t really considered some of it when setting out to write this book; I thought it’d be a nice little romp.  You know, hero saves the world through action scenes and snappy dialogue.  Turns out, even that kind of work needs some character development.

Even if I need to turn to women’s fashion.  Oh, before I forget…  Word goal: 2,500.  Word achievement: 3,400.
